regional workshop, the first of eight regional training events planned for 1982 by SATG, is being co-sponsored by five other lesbian/gay organiations: the Illinois Gay and Lesbian Task Force (Chicago), Michigan Organization for Human Rights (Detroit), Sioux Empire Gay Coalition (Sioux Falls, SD), The United (Madison, WI), and The Gay Center (Madison, WI).
Both the Project and the regional workshop have received attention and encourgement from other national groups, including the National Gay Task Force and Gay Rights National Lobby. GRNL organizer and legislative assistant Susan F. Green, in response to a question about the upcoming training, said, "I'm convinced that the way for us to succeed is to be incredibly well-organized and that means getting skills. I'm excited about this new training project, because I believe that it can help local programs. develop those skills.".
Larry Gurel, Community Information Officer for NGTF expressed his feelings about the importance of the Project: "The real strength of the gay/lesbian movement can only lie in its network of local gay rights organizations. Strengthening those organizations is vital. The Radical Right has been able to get the money and members that produce a powerful network of grass roots groups. The gay movement has to do the same to survive. We at NGTF see the National Lesbian Gay Organizational Development Project as a crucial step toward matching the skills of the opposition at the local level."
According to an SATG spokesperson, participants in the workshop will be provided with free lodging in the homes of Madison lesbians and gays, and lunches will be included in the workshop fee, advertised at $72 if particpants register before March 10, 1982 (the fee is scheduled to increase to $105 for registrations after March 10). Participants from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, the Dakotas and cental Cabada are expected at the workshop.
Interested individuals can receive workshop brochures and registration forms by writing or calling SATG at Box 2113, Madison, WI 53711, telephone (608) 9611.

M.O.H.R./A.S.P. ENDORSE
SENATE CANDIDATE
(Ferndale) The Political Action Committees (P.A.C.) of M.O.H.R. and A.S.P. have endorsed State Representative Gary Vanek in the March 2 Democratic primary. The Royal Oak lawmaker is running in the special election for Michigan's 16th Senate District. According to A.S.P.-P.A.C. Chairman Henry D. Messer, the 16th District, which comprises Ferndale, Royal Oak, and parts of Troy, has a sizable gay and lesbian population which could affect the outcome of the race. Vanek, who is opposed by State Rep. Dana Wilson, met with members of both organizations and expressed his support of gay related issues. Wilson, meanwhile, has declined several invitations to discuss gay issues. Along with A.S.P. and M.O.H.R.'s endoresement, Vanek has also received backing by the U.A.W., AFL-CIO, and the Michigan Education Association.
ACLU CONSIDERING LITIGATION AGAINST MICHIGAN SODOMY LAWS The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan is considering going to court with a constitutional challenge against the Michigan sodomy laws according to students at the University of Michigan Law School. The Michigan students, who are active in gay civil rights matters, apparently offered to do research for ACLU if ACLU would provide the other legal expertise necessary to get a case into court. The students specified that the challenge would be constitutionally based. Contact Howard Simon, Director of ACLU in Michigan.
